West Canada Wildlife Viewing Tours
Grizzly Bear Observation Knight Inlet, Inside Passage Orca Whale Tours, Polar Bears of Churchill
Seal River Heritage Lodge
The exclusive fly-in lodge makes its home on a small rocky peninsula, 65 km north of Churchill on the Hudson Bay coast. In the heart of this great wilderness enjoy sitting out on the deck and watching the Arctic sunset. As you walk quietly through remnants of ancient Dene and Inuit hunting camps you will gain an appreciation for the tenacity of these people who traversed this land without the convenience of modern transportation and communication systems. Accommodations are luxurious by arctic standards. Eight well-appointed bedrooms compliment beautifully decorated viewing lounges. The lodge is equipped with full bathrooms, hot and cold running water and generated electricity. Exclusive accommodation, remote wilderness setting, gourmet cuisine and family-run service combined with the adventure, make a truly unforgettable experience.
4 to 8 Days Birds, Bears & Beluga Whales – All inclusive program
Day Itinerary
01
Arrive in Churchill, polar bear capital of the world. If coming in by air you might be lucky enough to see the "bear patrol" escorting one of our great white bears off the runway. Guests arriving by train may have already seen bears, caribou, fox and wolves. Our representative will greet you and introduce you to the tour. We then whisk you out to the charter plane base where you will be flown to the lodge on a fantastic aerial adventure along the Hudson Bay coast. Be prepared for spectacular sightings of huge pods of whales, bird life, seals, caribou and of course the great Ice Bears. The Seal River Estuary is a favorite summer haunt for these huge, white bears, where they can be seen swimming or basking near the water's edge. Your hosts will introduce and get you settled into your room.
02 – 03/05 or 07
Over the next few days your guide will lead you on a variety of wilderness adventures in tune with the rhythm of the land and sea. You will learn to interpret the movements of wildlife according to their schedule as it relates to winds, tides, temperature, food supply, etc. Approximately eight hours of touring each day, which are laid out each evening for the next day. The following will be part of the program but expect much more...

Marine Tours - Tides and weather permitting we will do at least three expeditions by boat to view beluga whales, seals, seabirds and polar bears. We spend three to four hours working around the high tides. Expect to see hundreds of whales per outing! Beluga whales are very friendly and will even come up to the side of the boat for a pat on the head. If petting them from the Zodiak isn’t adventurous enough, you can don a dry suit and swim with these gentle mammals in the cool waters for a truly unforgettable experience.

Trekking/Walking Tours - These are a daily part of the program ranging from an hour jaunt to perhaps photograph a passing caribou to day trips on the tundra with a pack lunch. This is the perfect way to get up close and personal with the area flora and fauna. Nesting bird life, fox dens, wild flowers, and caribou are just a few of the sights you will take in. When polar bears are sighted, your guide will advise you on the best way to maintain a safe viewing distance.

Coast by Buggy - See the Hudson Bay coast on our custom made Tundra Tracker. A day trip in one of these vehicles allows us to cover a lot of shoreline searching out wildlife. Lunch is a picnic en route. Ample time to explore and photograph the trail.

Ocean Paddles - We have several sea kayaks and canoes on site for your use at any time. A sunset paddle with the whales can be awe inspiring!

Aurora Watching - Yes, we do have excellent northern lights viewing in summer especially in the latter part of our season.

Fishing - Offered as an option at an additional cost, fishing is a great way to explore some of our inland waterways. Fish for Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Brook Trout and Arctic Grayling. The kitchen is always happy to prepare your catch for a real taste of the north. Tackle can be rented.

Whale Swim - Swim with the whales. A few hardy adventurers will take the ultimate plunge and join the belugas in their watery world of the Hudson Bay. If given a suitable amount of time we can order dry or wet suits for you to enjoy this experience.
