If you're looking for the best Orca viewing and Native Cultural sea kayaking tour in Johnstone Strait, at a reasonable price, then this is the trip for you. Located in the heart of Blackfish Sound, our cozy floating lodge 'Gala kas la', will provide you with the ultimate home base while you experience the Orca adventure of a lifetime. The superb location of the lodge provides us the good fortune to kayak to the most desirable areas within Johnstone Strait.Within five-minutes of paddling from the lodge we will have the opportunity to view the Orca whales on one of their frequent journeys into Blackfish Sound - photo opportunities are amazing.
Arrival Information
You will travel with or meet us in the eclectic northern town of Port McNeill. We will leave Port McNeill that night via water taxi at 8:00 pm, and be delivered to the 'Gala kas la' lodge, where you will be issued your paddling gear supplied by WeGo Kayaking. After a brief discussion the guides will give out bunk assignments. Regarding trip logistics, the guides will go over them with you at this point and they will also discuss your gear with you and provide advice as needed. From there the rest of the night is yours to relax. We will also take time to visit native petroglyphs and the abandoned native site at Mammalilaculla.
 Day 01
We will rise at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast. After breakfast the guides will conduct a kayak orientation discussing kayak safety, as well as how to load your kayak. We will then have the opportunity to go for a paddle and exercise our new skills. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring the area by kayak and observing Orcas in their natural environment.
 Day 02
We will have the opportunity to explore the islands that make up the area. We will spend time locating the magnificent Orcas, and visiting culturally significant areas. We will also take time to capture photographs of the natural beauty of the area and wildlife.
 Day 03
Today we will visit Village Island taking an interpretive tour of the abandoned native site at Mammalilaculla and listening to Tom Sewid, native guardian.
 Day 04
If you are on a four-day tour we will rise at 7:30 am and have breakfast. After breakfast we will pack gear and prepare for water taxi departure back to Port McNeill at 10:30 a.m. Participants are responsible for their own food expenses after breakfast. A lunch stop will be made in Campbell River. Upon returning to Port McNeill we will continue south to Cowichan Bay dropping off people along the way as requested.
