Kayak Touring in British Columbia
Tofino, Vancouver Island Clayoquot Sound and Hot Springs Cove
KBC#06 Clayoquot Sound & Hot Springs Cove
Our Hot Springs Cove - Clayoquot Sound kayak tour is designed as a point-to-point expedition, not as a loop trip. By utilizing a water taxi on the last day of our adventure, we have the advantage of traveling to more remote locations with each passing day. Clayoquot is also known the world over for its summer population of resident Grey Whales. These leviathans of the deep take part in an annual 11,000-mile migration that brings them into the sound in early spring and sees them depart in the fall, making for superior viewing opportunities throughout the summer.
 Day 01
You will travel with us or meet us in the friendly West Coast village of Tofino at the kayak launch site where we will discuss kayaking safety principles. After a boat packing lesson we will begin our expedition with a trip to Meares Island (site of the largest protest in Canadian history) to hike among the Ancient Cedars of the Big Tree Trail. We will spend our first night at the rustic Vargas Island Inn, taking time to become familiar with our equipment, discuss paddling techniques, and enjoy the sauna.
 Day 02
An early breakfast and hot coffee before setting off for some morning paddling along the exposed coast of Vargas Island. We will lunch on one of the beautiful sandy beaches, taking time to capture photographs of the abundant wildlife and the awe inspiring open Pacific. After making camp at one of the beautiful sandy beaches north of Vargas Island, we will enjoy a gourmet dinner around a campfire as your guide relays their knowledge of the local native culture and history.
 Day 03
Continuing north from our beach camp, we will follow the coastline along Flores Island, a popular summer feeding ground for the grey Whale. Grey Whale viewing is spectacular here in the summer months. We will make our camp here for the night, listening to the blows of the mighty whale, enjoying a glass of wine and breathtaking west coast sunset.
 Day 04
Another blissful morning of paddling brings us to our final destination, Hot Springs Cove Provincial Park. A soak in the rich mineral pools (54 C) is a perfect way to relax and reflect upon the time spent in one of Vancouver Islands most precious of places. Our last night will be spent camping at this amazing spot.
