Bowron Lakes, BC – Guided Canoe Tours
Canoe packages: Bowron Lakes, Wells Gray Park, Tweedsmuir Park, Okeover Arm & Inlet / Sunshine Coast The adventure of a lifetime
4 / 5 Day Turner Lake Canoe Adventure
 Turner Lake, Tweedsmuir Provincial Park
Perched at 3,500 feet, on the eastern edge of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, stretches a chain of lakes which flow into Turner Lake and ultimately over Hunlen Falls. Seven lakes connected by a stream are cradled between the Coastal Mountains on either side... all are navigable by canoe.

Arrive at Nimpo Lake, located near the frontier town of Anahim, British Columbia, some 250 air miles north of Vancouver, and 180 road miles west of Williams Lake. Stay overnight in one of our cabins at Nimpo to get prepared for your spectacular adventure. The next morning we fly by floatplane to the spectacular 'mountain outpost', just 20 minutes from Nimpo Lake. We'll set you down on Turner Lake following a scenic flight over Hunlen Falls. We extend our flightseeing tour over Monarch Mountain, a majestic peak that towers 11,590 feet (3,533 m) above sea level, it's a rugged centrepiece that presides over the icefields bordering the southern-most edge of Tweedsmuir Park. Monarch is just one of several highlights as we wing our way over deep mantles of snow and ice covering craggy rock stretching skyward... eons old glaciers lay 'still', inching down hidden valleys... here and there, a brilliant turquoise lake filled with small 'bergs will catch your eye.

Once at Turner Lake, the park facility operator will welcome you dockside on the northwest side where a wood frame tent camp is established... your 'base of operations', so to speak. At this camp, you obtain the Mohawk canoe of durable royalex and your Park permit. If an emergency arises, there's a radio telephone there for your safety while you are at the Wilderness Camp. For the next days you stay overnight in rustic cabins at Turner Lake, located on a private sandy beach and equipped with wood stoves, firewood, 4 beds and foamies, tables and chairs.

During your stay enjoy canoeing on the different lakes. The chain of lakes is connected by Hunlen Creek and provides the opportunity for an enjoyable canoe trip of three to five days. Leading from Turner Lake to Sunshine Lake, a distance of about 17 miles (27.5 km) one way, this route enjoys calm water, beautiful scenery, good cutthroat trout fishing and sandy beaches. With the exception of 7-mile (11-km) Turner Lake, the lakes are small. There are six easy, short portages, the longest taking 30 minutes.

Enjoy Lake and stream fishing ... until the 1950s, there were no fish in the system due to Hunlen Falls. Ralph Edwards, of Lonesome Lake, saw to 'seeding the system' by packing up two spawning pairs of cutthroat trout from Lonesome Lake and releasing them into the Hunlen Valley waters. Over the years, these cutthroat have flourished and spread in great numbers up and down the chain. The cutts make for great 'pan fryers', but we encourage you to keep only what you eat while in the park.

Local hikes ... numerous trails are cleared and marked just for you. Take a leisurely hike along the stream or to the bluffs overlooking Hunlen Falls. For more vigorous hikes, head to Panorama Ridge and the high alpine above Turner Lake... spectacular views of the surrounding backcountry are just waiting to be discovered!
